A North Carolina High School and College basketball legend, Phil Ford has etched his name in North Carolina sports lore. An All-American at both Rocky Mount High School and the University of North Carolina, Ford was the National Basketball Association’s 2nd overall 1978 draft pick, going to the then-named Kansas City Kings. In his first season with the Kings, he was named NBA Rookie of the Year. After retiring from the NBA in 1985, Ford was an assistant coach on the 1993 Carolina team that won a National Championship.
